I was told that we might need a new furnace and air conditioner if we add onto our existing home ~ is that accurate information?

It very well could be the case. There are several factors to take into consideration. Depending on the size of your new addition, the rating of your current furnace and air conditioner, you may be required to upgrade. Our HVAC professional will assess your situation and make the appropriate recommendations.

Why shouldn’t I be my own General Contractor for my home improvement or restoration project?

Depending on the scope of your project, and with time and determination, you could be your own General Contractor. But here are some things to consider:

• You will need to understand and acquire the proper permits and legal documents required.
• Find subcontractors who are experienced, insured, competent and honest.
• Quality control ~ take time to ensure the subcontractors are completing the portion of their job as specified and not taking short cuts.
• Make sure that the team of subcontractors you’ve hired can work well together and hope you can schedule them when you need them without delays.
• If your project involves an insurance claim, you will need to understand, assess and be sure, that the quote is appropriate for the work to be performed.
• Understand that because you chose to be your own General Contractor, that if a problem arises within your project down the road, that you will have to deal with each subcontractor individually for warrantee issues.
• Your project could actually end up costing you more money by being your own General Contractor instead of saving you money, as some believe.
